Bengt B. Arnetz holds MD and PhD (Psychophysiology) degrees from the Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden, and Master of Public Health and Master of Science in Epidemiology, respectively, from the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Dr. Arnetz is a fully tenured professor in Family and Preventive Medicine, College of Human Medicine, Michigan State University, Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. He has served in several academic leadership positions, including chairing departments of community medicine as well as family medicine. Dr. Arnetz community-based participatory research addresses biopsychosocial mechanisms at the micro-, meso-, and macrolevels involved in health disparities and stress-related disorders. His more recent research includes longitudinal studies of physical and mental health in forcibly displaced persons due to war and conflicts, community-derived initiatives to increase awareness of and trust in social welfare systems in vulnerable groups, and mechanisms promoting neurobiological thriving in stress-exposed healthcare personnel.
